Ineratec and Ferrostaal Chile join forces

Strategic partnership for e-fuel projects and sharing of advanced power-to-X technology to mitigate climate change

  • Ineratec and Ferrostaal Chile announce strategic partnership for e-fuel projects
  • Sharing advanced power-to-X technology to mitigate climate change

Santiago, Chile - 25 April 2023 - Ineratec, a global leader in power-to-X, and Ferrostaal Chile, a prestigious engineering and construction company, today announced a strategic cooperation agreement for the development of e-fuel projects in Chile. Their aim is to promote the production of sustainable e-fuels in Chile and develop clean energy solutions to support the energy transition.

The partnership was sealed at a high-level meeting on 21 April 2023 attended by representatives from Ineratec, Ferrostaal Chile, Chilean Energy Minister Diego Pardow, German Ambassador Irmgard Fellner and Annika Schüttler from the German-Chilean Chamber of Commerce (AHK). This meeting underlines the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors to accelerate the implementation of clean energy solutions in Chile.

Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate on the design, construction and operation of e-fuel plants. These plants will use Ineratec's advanced modular power-to-X technology to convert renewable energy and carbon dioxide into synthetic fuels. The e-fuels produced will serve as a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil fuels and help reduce CO2 emissions.

Ferrostaal Chile will contribute its extensive project management, engineering and construction experience to ensure the successful implementation and integration of these e-fuel plants. The partnership is expected to help strengthen Chile's position as a leading player in the global clean energy market. At the same time, it will create new jobs and promote economic growth in the country.

Chile has significant renewable energy resource potential, including solar, wind and hydropower, with an estimated capacity of over 1,300 GW. The e-fuel sector will play a key role in unlocking this potential, as projections suggest that e-fuels could replace up to 20% of the country's current liquid fuel consumption by 2040.

Ludwig Hecker, CEO of Ferrostaal Chile, emphasised the importance of this partnership: "Climate protection requires global commitment. Our cooperation with Ineratec enables us to harness Chile's huge renewable energy potential and convert it into clean, sustainable e-fuels. This is not only crucial for Chile's energy transition, but also opens up significant growth opportunities in the renewable energy sector."

This partnership underlines Ineratec and Ferrostaal Chile's shared commitment to clean energy and the fight against climate change. Given the increasing global demand for sustainable energy solutions, this agreement marks an important milestone on the path to a more sustainable energy landscape in Chile and beyond.

The e-fuels produced serve as a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil fuels and contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
